3rd Party Instruction RFP


Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey is a Non-Profit Society and branch of minor hockey on the west side of Vancouver and is one of BC's largest minor hockey associations with approximately 1000 players on 70+ teams in any given year. Due to the size and complexity of the association, organizing, planning and developing our players, coaches, officials, and volunteers has allowed us to formalize many of its policies, procedures, and processes. Over the years as the need for hockey skills development professionals has increased, so to have the formal regulations governing such providers. 

In any given year Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey has a number of third party skill development providers working with teams and members within the Association. In order to keep up with the demand, as well as to ensure all proper rules and regulations are met by these skill development providers for the upcoming season Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey has formalized and is soliciting qualified skill development providers to the Association.

Any third party, or private entrepreneurial skill providers to Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey must go through a formal application process in order to work with any affiliated team/players within the organization. Some examples of skill providers includes:

  • Skating instructors
  • Puck skills and shooting instructors
  • Goaltending coaches
  • Off-ice conditioning coaches
  • Other


Core Objective of RFP and Functional Requirements

The core objective of the RFP is to ensure the proper safety of the children and members of Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey from three perspectives;

1) To ensure criminal record and/or vulnerable search sector checks of all people working with minors, as well as Hockey Canada certification in Respect in Sport are met.

2) To ensure proper minimum insurance standards are met.

3) To ensure proper qualified skill development standards are up held in conjunction with the teaching methodologies approved by Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey.

All third party, or private entrepreneurial skill providers will be required to meet the guidelines and requirements of this RFP in order to work with any Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey player and/or team.

RFP Guidelines and Requirements

Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey wishes to invite any third party and/or private entrepreneurial instructors or groups providers who wish to be approved to work with Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey players/teams during the Minor Hockey Season to submit the following information:

=       Company overview

=       General teaching philosophies

=       Biographies complete with qualifications of any members of your company that would be working with the VTMHA

=       Fee expectations


=    For Individual Proposals

=       Curriculum Vitae complete with qualifications

=       General teaching philosophies

=       Fee expectations 

Vendor Qualifications:

All third party private and/or entrepreneurial instructors or groups must possess an associate membership with BC Hockey. For more information on this membership bchockey bulletin - 2014-032 Insurance and Entrepreneurial or Private Instructors and Groups

All further qualifications can be presented to Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey in the proposals as mentioned above.


Evaluation Criteria

All applications will be reviewed by members of Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey Staff and Board of Directors prior to any approval. All applications can be submitted via email to admin@vancouvertbirds.ca
