Officiating Development Program
For the past several years, Vancouver Thunderbirds Hockey has been a leader in its decision to fully support the development of brand new, young and more experienced officials by providing the necessary knowledge and skills needed to become better, capable, confident officials. The creation of a supervision and shadowing program, in combination with on-ice clinics held throughout the year for officials of varying years of experience has helped achieve such a goal. The Development Team is made up of officials with various levels and years of officiating experience, ranging from the WHL, Junior A & B, as well as younger officials who have a keen passion and exemplify the role of officiating. Several of our officials have been recognized for their excellence nationally, provincially, and locally.
On-Ice Development Clinics
We host on-ice instructional sessions periodically throughout the year. One these dates are confirmed for the upcoming season, you will receive an email with a link to RSVP with your availability. Please email Dan at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.

Please complete this form to inform us of your interest.
If you or your child is interested in certifying as an official, we recommend registering for and completing the Hockey University - Officiating online modules. The course is a pre-requisite to becoming an official and costs $19.95. Once the course has been completed, it never expires. This allows you or your child to gauge their interest in officiating for next season. The course can be accessed at: https://ehockey.hockeycanada.ca/ehockey/ClinicDetail.aspx?cid=103167
Please contact Bob Zhang at email@example.com with any questions.
All returning officials must attend a re-certification clinic. Register on the BC Hockey website for a clinic that is convenient for you.
The Officiating Program hosts various events throughout the year, both in the spirit of community and team building, but also in keeping with the idea that exposure to excellent standards of officiating contributes to the overall development of officials. One such event is a night for new officials to "supervise" and grade more experienced officials at a Midget A game. Other events include meeting with WHL officials at a Vancouver Giants game in the spring.
