MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back
for another exciting season of minor hockey.
The executive has been busy planning the upcoming “Olympic”
season. We will have ice during the Olympics, just not as
much ice as we normally have. The City of Vancouver and UBC
have worked with us to try and minimize the impact of the
Olympics. You will notice that we have started
everything a little bit earlier this season.
If anyone has any questions related to the Olympic ice
situation, please do not hesitate to email me.
The Vancouver Thunderbird MHA was a major force behind the start
up of a Juvenile C body contact league for the 2008/09
season. Juvenile is for 18, 19 and 20 year olds. The
Thunderbirds have offered a Juvenile AAA team for this age group,
but many of our players did not want to participate in body
checking. We are now able to offer an alternative.
Last year in the “President’s Message” I mentioned a focus on
increasing the volunteer base. We have made some great
strides in this area, which is evidenced by the very successful
Thunderball last season. We will continue to focus on
increasing our volunteer base. If you would like to volunteer
please contact any board member.
I would also like to remind everyone to support our fundraising
activities which include events such as the Giants night,
Thunderball, Meat and Pie fundraiser.
See you at the rink,
George Georgeopoulos
