OLYMPIC UPDATE & IMPACT
ON 2009-2010 SEASON
As
everyone is aware, the Vancouver 2010 Olympics are less than a year away. This will be a very important
and exciting event for the city. As the various Olympic Federations
bring their ice sport teams (figure skating, hockey, sledge hockey,
and speed skating) to Vancouver, it means that there will be even
more user groups that we have to share the city ice
with.
Due to
the Olympics, next season will look a little different than past seasons. We have been already working
with BC Hockey, PCAHA, VANOC, and our ice providers to plan for
next season. At a recent PCAHA President’s Caucus meeting, we were
presented with the following possible scenarios for the 2009/2010
season:
(1) Push the start of the
season up to as early as possible. The Rep season would start
around Oct 1st, two weeks earlier than normal and the regular season would end at around
Jan 15th. The league would try to fit playoffs and final
4’s in between Jan 15 and Feb 13. Provincial championships would
then be played after the Olympics are concluded and all provincial
championships would be played outside of the Lower
Mainland.
(2) The “C” leagues would
start their regular season the 3rd or 4th
week of September. This scenario might also have the
Vancouver-based teams playing all their home games in the first
half, which would mean an extra game time per “C” team in the first
half of the season.
(3) The Initiation season would also
be moved to start earlier, but dependant upon the above scenarios
and ice allocation.
(4) The Midget and Juvenile
scholarship games may be moved to March, after the Olympics are
completed.
We will
forward everyone more details as soon as they are available. In
themeantime, especially with Labour Day
being very late this coming September, please be prepared for an
earlier start to the season (tryouts/evaluations) than we enjoyed this past season. Again, as more
details become available, we will pass that information along.
However, please keep this very import possibility in mind when
looking at your end-of-August vacation planning.

We are permitted by PCAHA, our district association, to register
only those players who reside within our boundaries. Our draw zone
is essentially the west side of Vancouver. More specifically, our
boundaries run from the north end of Burrard Street to Broadway,
east along Broadway to Kingsway, along Kingsway to Fraser, south
along Fraser to 41st Avenue, east along 41st to Argyle, south along
Argyle St. to the Fraser River.
SEE RESIDENTIAL
BOUNDARY MAP
Hockey Canada Reg. F-10 States: A Branch or the Officers of
Hockey Canada, as applicable, may take any disciplinary
action dictated by the circumstances, against:
a) Any team found to be in violation of any Hockey Canada
registration regulation, and, or;
b) Any individual found guilty of having falsified or forged
any document that would make that individual eligible to play
hockey in any IIHF member federation.
-- Returning players who have moved out of our boundary should
contact the office to request a player movement form to give to
your new association. --
UEL, UNA & UBC Residents
Please note:
We are currently
reviewing our University Endowment Land Policy and expect to have
it resolved shortly. In the meantime, we wanted to advise you
that once we have concluded our review, there is a possibility that
the UEL fee charged in the past will be reinstated. (see more
in our policies for justification of charge) The estimated fee will
be between $700-$1000. We hope that those players whose
families live within the UBC jurisdiction (students and faculty)
will have their surcharge covered by UBC as in previous
years. For those families who live in the UNA, we hope that
an agreement can be reached whereby the UNA covers the surcharge
for those families as well. Families who are not in either of
those categories can expect a surcharge to be levied prior to the
start of our 2009-2010 season. We are currently determining
how much that will be. You will be invoiced for this fee
after your registration. Please see the attached spreadsheet which
indicates which address falls within which category.
We
will update you with
further information as it becomes available. Thank you for
your patience
No refund will be issued unless a request is made IN
WRITING to VTMHA, Suite #170, 4438 West
10th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V6R 4R8. If a refund is

refund minus a $50.00 processing fee will be issued. Refunds
requested after August 15th but before September
30th will be at 75% of the original registration fee, by
